U.S. President Donald Trump is set to embark on a trip to China, where he will ask China's President Xi Jinping to "open up" China. The trip includes Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, who was chosen at the last minute to join the trip. Both sides are expected to maintain a trade truce last October, following which Trump suspended triple-digit tariffs on Chinese goods and Xi backed away from choking global supplies of rare earths. However, both sides are hoping to maintain this truce and agree to forums to ease mutual trade and investment, while Washington is eager to sell Boeing airplanes, American agriculture and energy to China to reduce a trade deficit. The Iran war has contributed to inflationary pressures at home and increased the risk that the Republican Party will lose control of one or both legislative branches in November's midterm elections.
