Questions remain over how Louisiana lawmakers will redraw congressional map

Louisiana lawmakers are preparing to redraw the state's congressional map following a Supreme Court ruling that stated that race cannot be considered in the drawing of these districts. The 2022 map, which included only one majority-Black electoral district, was deemed likely to violate the Voting Rights Act. The state then developed a map in 2024 with two majority-African districts, but it was struck down by the Supreme Court. Robert Hogan, chair of LSU's Department of Political Science, suggested that even some Republicans may push back on this change. He also warned that redrawing districts could result in significant disruption to Democratic-leaning voters.
