A 26-year-old nurse, who graduated in 2023 with about $160,000 in student loan debt and has already paid down to roughly $90,000, her boyfriend, who earns $250,000 a year, has said he won't marry her until she is completely debt-free. Despite this, personal finance expert Dave Ramsey called the situation a "false premise" and suggested that marriage should not be conditional on eliminating debt. He also highlighted that shared finances and living arrangements can make it harder to leave when something isn't right. Co-host Jade Warshaw suggested that the boyfriend might be misguided instead of intentionally controlling. However, both hosts agreed that if the boyfriend refuses to budge, the message is clear.
