Ex-Sen. Sinema files to dismiss lawsuit over affair with former bodyguard

Former U.S. Senator from Arizona, Kyrsten Sinema, is seeking to dismiss a lawsuit by her ex-wife, Matthew Ammel, alleging that she had an affair with her then-bodyguard. The complaint was filed in Moore County, North Carolina, in 2025 following their separation over the reported affair. Court documents detailed details of Sinemas' relationship with Ammel and their interactions, which began shortly after he began working for her. SinemA's motion to dismiss states that the North Carolina court has no jurisdiction over the case as their relationship was "exclusively outside of North Carolina". The only communication between the two occurred when both were outside of the state. Ammel was initially hired and paid for out of Sineas' campaign account, but later became on her official Senate payroll.
