Why U.S. Employers Are Putting Their Health Insurance Plans Up for Bid

A survey by medical policy nonprofit KFF has found that companies are increasingly becoming more discerning about the source of rising health insurance costs for their employees. The survey also revealed that over a third of the Purchaser Business Group on Health (PBGH) has requested new bids from medical and pharmacy insurance providers, despite the considerable time and costs that switching policies often generate. The move is seen as a significant shift in the attitudes of employers regarding health insurance inflation. The study also highlighted the passage of the Consolidated Appropriations Act 2026, which aims to clamp down on excessive fees charged by healthcare and PBM companies and eliminate their opaque business practices.
