August Wilson's play, "Joe Turner's Come and Gone," is a powerful, poignant play that depicts Black life through the centuries. The play, which is currently playing at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre (W. 47 Street), tells the story of a group of people connected to a boardinghouse in Pittsburgh, including long-time boarder Bynum, who has the spiritual gift to bind people together, Herald Loomis, and Jeremy Furlow, Mattie Campbell, and Molly Cunningham. The production was praised for its spiritual connection and its portrayal of lost love, lost hope, and finding salvation when it seemed impossible. The cast included Cedric the Entertainer, Joshua Boone, and Taraji P. Henson, who plays his wife Bertha, and Tripp Taylor, who directed the production.
