French Quarter Fest, the city's largest free festival, kicks off Thursday with a parade on Bourbon Street and runs through the weekend. Over 300 performances will be held across the French Quarter and riverfront, including free dance lessons and special events. The festival's 5K race is also returning after a hiatus. The new Goldring Woldenberg Riverfront Park will host two stages and several food vendors. The event is cashless, with organizers encouraging ridesharing, biking, public transit or walking in. The police will enforce ticketing and tow charges, and the Louisiana National Guard will also patrol the streets.
