The Smithsonian National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute in Washington, D.C., is introducing its newest Asian elephant calf, Linh Mai, on Earth Day. The baby was born on February 2 and will make her public debut on April 22. She will be given lots of quiet time and personal space to bond with her parents, herd mates, and elephant care team. The Smithsonian's soon-to-be-released docusery, Have You Herd?, will showcase Linh's birth and introduction to the public in five parts. The first elephant born in nearly 25 years, her birth was a historic moment for the zoo and its work to protect elephants in the wild.
