Dairy farmers in Wisconsin may be eligible for aid following the March 14-16 blizzard conditions and winter storms. The USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) has encouraged farmers to report crop, livestock and infrastructure related losses to inquire about available disaster recovery assistance. The storms severely impacted dairy operations, affecting livestock health, feed supplies, transportation and daily milk production. FSA State Executive Director in Wisconsin, Sandy Chalmers, stated that the agency is prioritising timely disaster assistance for farmers when extreme weather negatively impacts their operations. The Livestock Indemnity Program (LIP) is available for eligible producers who experience livestock deaths in excess of normal mortality or sell injured livestock at a reduced price.
