Michigan basketball coach Dusty May has rejected the vacant North Carolina head coaching position, following his decision to stay with Michigan. May, whose top-seeded Wolverines are preparing for the NCAA Tournament championship game against UConn, communicated to all parties that he would stay in Ann Arbor. Despite being considered a top candidate for the position, May decided not to leave North Carolina for the same position. He is currently coaching in his second Final Four in four seasons and has a record of 189-82 in eight seasons. There are concerns about the state of UNC basketball and its momentum and infrastructure amid the costly Bill Belichick experiment in football. Chicago Bulls coach Billy Donovan, who won consecutive national championships with Florida in 2006 and 2007, is considered open to coaching North Carolina, but there is no guarantee that UNC would offer him the position.
