FirstEnergy has eliminated a 50-cent fee for Ohio residential customers who use electronic bank transfers to pay their monthly bills. The fee was initially charged by ACI Worldwide, a third-party payment processor, and reduced the service fee for credit card payment from 4.75% to 2.75%. The transition costs of these fees are now covered through base distribution rates. Non-residential customers will still be assessed a 50 cents per transaction, and will be subject to a 2.25% service fee per credit card transactions. This change comes after FirstEnergy and the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio entered into a settlement agreement over state laws the company violated in the passage of House Bill 6.
