JERA, Japan's largest LNG buyer, Ryosuke Tsugaru, has warned that the prolonged Iran crisis could push buyers to non-Mideast suppliers. The company, which handles roughly 35 million tons of super-chilled fuel annually, expects spot prices to surge and volatility to increase due to the ongoing conflict. Tsugar: As long as the conflict continues, the crisis could increase sourcing or investment in projects elsewhere. JERA signed a 27-year deal with QatarEnergy for 3 mtpa from the North Field South, which could delay deliveries beyond their 2028 schedule if the war drags on and work on the expansion stalls. The firm is considering additional spot purchases to address cargo shortfalls if the crisis continues.
