The state of Michigan has declared a state of emergency in 40 counties across the state, nearly half of which are affected by ongoing flooding. Officials are urging residents, particularly business and property owners, to report the damage online and call 211 for help. The governor has added two more counties in the Upper Peninsula to the state's list of counties affected by flooding. The state is using an "online self-reporting tool" to assess the extent of the damages and determine federal assistance. The information will also help determine what federal assistance is available. The flooding has affected many northern Michigan communities, with many roads and bridges completely submerged and washed out entirely. Forecasters predict continued flooding throughout the week as snow is melting further north and rivers rise.
