A strong Bermuda high and upper-level ridge will keep warm, southerly flow over the Charlotte area from the mountains down through the Piedmont. The weather will continue to be unsettled, with scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms expected in the mountains and foothills. Friday is expected to be the day of record-challenging heat, with temperatures expected to remain about 20° above normal for the entire region. The record-breaking heat is expected for the low 80s, which is almost completely within reach of tying or breaking it. The unsettled weather pattern will continue into early next week, with no major, lasting cool-down in sight yet.
