Webtoon's CEO, Mikyung (Michelle) Kwon, has stated that the company is still educating the Western entertainment industry about the power of webcomic IP in relation to the format and global fandoms underpinning its IP. Despite being the top of the list for hits on Netflix, Disney+ and Crunchyroll, Kwon believes that webcomics are still relatively new to many Western markets. She also highlighted the potential of web comics to have significant global impact in the entertainment market. Kwon argues that Korea has already established itself as a global tastemaker across various sectors, including beauty, fashion, technology and music, and that web comics are the next export out of Korea that will have significant impact globally. Her company's slate includes Emmy-nominated series ‘Chicken Nugget’ and the film “My Daughter Is a Zombie” adapted from a Webtoon title with over 500 million global views.
