The $8 million reconstruction of the junction of Route 3 and Bedford Road, which is a frequent site of vehicle accidents, will not begin until 2027. The state Department of Transportation is planning to redesign and safety improvements for the crossroads in 2021. However, the project is being delayed due to the acquisition of a piece of land in Mary Cummings Park, a 216-acre green space held in trust by the city of Boston.
