Thunderstorms with pea-sized hail in Central Douglas County Friday – wind gusts reaching 30 mph
Published on April 10, 2026.
The National Weather Service issued a warning for strong thunderstorms until 3 p.m. for Central Douglas County, which could bring pea-sized hail and wind gusts reaching up to 30 mph. The weather service suggests that if outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Each year, lightning strikes the United States approximately 25 million times, mostly during the summer, killing approximately 20 people. The threat of lightning becomes more pronounced as thunderstorms approach, peaking when the storm is directly overhead and waning as it moves away. If you have no indoor shelter during a thunderstorm, set up camp in a valley, ravine, or low-lying areas, avoid open fields, hilltops, or ridge crests, and steer clear of tall, isolated trees.
