A new regional order for the Strait of Hormuz

The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states have an opportunity to create a new security architecture for the Strait of Hormuz, a move that could provide US President Donald Trump with an exit strategy. This strategy could elevate their strategic significance in regional geopolitics and the global economy. However, prolonged conflict could result in a new regional order imposed unilaterally by Tehran. The GCC states appear trapped between confronting Trump during a war, but their inability to avoid being seen by Iran as passive participants in the aggression makes them legitimate targets. The author suggests that a new order will inevitably replace the existing one and conditions for all regional states will worsen if the conflict continues to escalate. The article suggests that Europe's successful historical experiences in achieving a regional order should be considered as inspiration for the GCC.
