Hawaii is still awaiting approval for a Presidential Disaster Declaration request from Gov. Josh Green, nearly two weeks after the second Kona Low caused widespread devastation. The request, submitted by Green eight days ago, is still pending approval. If approved, it would unlock Federal Emergency Management Agency support for debris removal, hazard mitigation, infrastructure repairs, and individual assistance. The state could also benefit from housing, unemployment, crisis counseling, and legal services. While the state awaits approval, FEMA's damage assessments are crucial for moving forward. It's unclear when the federal government will act on the disaster request, but state leaders are working to ensure Hawaii receives support. Walmart has committed $250,000 towards relief efforts.
