‘We must do better’: Mat-Su Borough to launch independent review after 25 dogs found dead

Mat-Su Borough officials have announced an independent review of the borough's actions after 25 dogs were found dead on a Caswell Lakes property. Borough Manager Mike Brown stated that the deaths have shaken the community and that the borough "must do better". The review will be conducted through an internal investigation and an outside review. Alaska State Troopers are investigating possible animal cruelty. Community members had raised concerns about welfare issues for months and repeatedly called animal control. Brown refuted online claims that animal control never responded, but said the outcome shows the response fell short.
