The US Department of Transportation (DOT) has restored funding to the Second Avenue subway line project after New York officials sued. The decision was made following a review of the project and will allow state transit officials to begin reimbursing them for construction costs again. The MTA CEO, Janno Lieber, stated that the decision was an "long-awaited transit justice" for neighborhoods in upper Manhattan. The federal Department of Transport had previously withheld roughly $60 million from the project as it launched its review. The administration argued that use of diversity, equity, and inclusion principles has led to high costs and is unconstitutional.
