Texas, Kentucky coaches set for Sweet 16 battle — their bond goes beyond basketball

Texas and Kentucky head coach, Vic Schaefer, are set to compete in the 2026 Women's NCAA Tournament in Fort Worth, Texas. Both coaches have their daughters on the sidelines, inspired by Schaefer's father-daughter coaching duo. Brooks' daughter, Kendyl Brooks, joined the Kentucky coaching staff in 2024 as the basketball operations coordinator. Schaefer has been a women’s basketball coach for 36 years and her daughter Blair joined the Texas Longhorns in 2020. In addition to coaching and now working with their daughters, the two head coaches also share a bond based on family health challenges.
