UEFA proposed several alternatives to the match, including playing at the Santiago Bernabeu, a 50-50 split for fans, and a two-legged format with one leg in Madrid and the other in Buenos Aires. The cancellation of the match leaves unclear whether Spain or Argentina will still meet at the World Cup this summer.
