The Oklahoma Wildlife Conservation Commissioners accepted a $25,000 donation from the Sooner State Chapter of the Quail Coalition at their regular meeting in Oklahoma City. The funds will be used to remove eastern redcedar and salt cedar from wildlife management areas. The Quail coalition, which began in Texas about 15 years ago, has grown to 12 chapters across Texas. The group's first fundraising dinner and auction raised over $100,000, indicating a strong interest in restoring quail habitat. ODWC Director Wade Free updated Commissioners on various activities within the Department's five divisions. The Fisheries Division has placed 800 cut cedar trees and many artificial structures into Keystone Lake to enhance fish habitat, and has raised 1.45 million sauger fry for public water stocking.
