The California candidates for governor have publicly supported the creation of single-payer health care in California, a proposal that would create a free, universal health care system in the state. The proposal, also known as CalCare, has been proposed several times in California and promises to provide comprehensive universal health coverage and a health care cost control system for all residents. If implemented, CalCare would provide greater benefits and access to providers than existing health coverage plans.
