The highest-scoring local high school in New Jersey is Millburn High School in Essex County, with an SAT average score of 1,391 out of 1-600, according to state Department of Education data. Despite this, critics argue that the SAT test unfairly favors wealthy students and those who can afford preparation courses. The highest-ranking local high schools are West Windsor-Plainsboro High School South and West Windsor/Plainsborough High School North. If added to the list, Millburn would have the seventh highest average score in the state. The majority of the ultra-high-scoring SAT schools in the New Jersey are magnet or specialized high schools with selective and competitive admissions processes, which tend to score higher than general admission high schools.
