A new development in Novi, Michigan, is transforming a stretch of suburbia into a hub for Asian-inspired retail. The building, which includes 176 apartments and over 100 completed, combines housing, dining and shopping to serve a growing Asian population and attract visitors from across the region. The project is seen as a test for whether this concept can work in Metro Detroit. Exhibitions included Paris Baguette, a South Korean bakery-cafe chain, Klawsome!, a claw machine arcade, and a Japanese resale chain. Additional tenants include a U.S.-based Japanese department store chain called Teso Life with cosmetics, food, home goods and toys. The idea has been years in the making and inspired by similar retail hubs in coastal cities.
