New portrait of the oldest-known supernova

A NASA X-ray telescope has captured a stunning image of the oldest-known supernova, which is located 8,000 light-years away from Earth. The image reveals unseen features of the supernova including a large low-density "cavity" in the center causing it to expand more rapidly than expected. This image was captured using IXPE's unique ability to study the polarization of X-rays.
