Denver beekeeper, Gregg McMahan, has reported that this year's swarm season began four weeks early due to warm weather conditions. The mild winter and warm start to spring have led to swarms occurring earlier in the year than ever. McMahan is a dispatcher for the Colorado Swarm Hotline and usually sends a beekeeper to collect swarms when someone comes in, but decided to handle one himself. He found a swarm on a fence and lured it into a box, identifying the queen as a good sign. McMaghan said he expects more than 100 swarms this year. The Swarm Hotlines are asking for free removal of swarms from property.
