BWI Marshall Airport in Washington, DC, has advised travelers to arrive hours early Saturday due to long security lines due to staffing shortages among Transportation Security Administration officers during the federal shutdown. This comes after President Donald Trump signed an executive action to address disruptions at airports nationwide. The TSA has been working without pay for over 40 days due to the partial government shutdown, with over 500 officers leaving and thousands more forced to call out due to financial issues. Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin announced that TSA workers could begin receiving paychecks as early as Monday. The delays followed a ground stop issued by the Federal Aviation Administration on Friday evening, but continued into Saturday morning. BWI was one of five airports affected, along with Washington Dulles International, Ronald Reagan Washington National, Charlottesville-Albemarle and Richmond airports.
