The San Francisco Giants fell 7-1 to the San Diego Padres in their first game of the Tony Vitello era, with right-hander Adrian Houser taking the loss. Both of these unearned runs were caused by first baseman Casey Schmitt's errors, while third baseman Matt Chapman was also charged with an error. Despite a nine-run, 16-hit offensive from the previous night, San Francisco's offense only managed four hits and struck out 14 times. Former Padre Luis Arraez was one of the Giants' lone bright spots, recording his first three-hit game as a Giant. Rookie catcher Daniel Susac made his major league debut in the seventh inning.
