The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a food safety alert linking a multistate Salmonella outbreak to recalled jalapeño peppers imported from Sinaloa, Mexico, distributed by Coast Citrus Distributors. According to the CDC, 345 people in 27 states have been infected with the same strain of Salmonell, 36 hospitalizations, and no deaths have been reported. The recalled peppers were primarily distributed to restaurants and wholesalers. The CDC is urging restaurants and other food businesses to stop serving or selling the recalled peppers and thoroughly sanitize any surfaces or equipment that may have come into contact with them.
