His passing comes just weeks before the city's upcoming event, the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach, is set to take place. Michaelian served in various leadership roles throughout his career, including controller, COO, and president and CEO. Los Angeles Sports Council President and CEO Matt Cacciato praised Michaelian's leadership and vision, which included ensuring that major sports events were as much about community and place as they are about competition. He also established a global event, blending top-level competition with significant entertainment, civic, and business impact for Long Beach. The announcement of his death was not immediately disclosed.
