The sixth Missing Persons Day event was held by the Cook County medical examiner’s office in response to the public outcry over the flawed process of finding missing persons. The event, hosted by the event, allowed families to provide DNA samples, file police reports, and talk to law enforcement from around the country. Representatives from the Cook county sheriff’S office, Chicago police, Illinois State Police, and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children were present to assist families in their search for answers. The Chief Medical Examiner Ponni Arunkumar stated that the event was able to give closure to one family who had been missing for over a year. Protests were held outside the building, also known as the Robert J. Steinhoff Institute, alleging wrongdoing in how the police's office handled the deaths of loved ones and unidentified loved ones.
