Shot by gang members, these Paralympians are making history

David Chávez and Jonathan Arias, two men from El Salvador, are making history in the Winter Paralympics for the first time in their country. They were shot and paralyzed during a robbery by gang members at age 14, while Arias was paralyzed from the waist down. Despite their background, they have qualified for the Para cross-country skiing event despite living without seeing snow. Their journey began when they dedicated themselves to a new sport and innovative training. Their supporters, including two American sports figures, supported them and built a training center for disabled athletes in a coastal town once infested with violence.
