Officials give update in Shreveport shooting that killed 8 children

Shreveport, Louisiana, man identified as Shamar Elkins, killed eight children and injured another child in a mass shooting that killed seven of his children and another child, according to relatives. The gunman's wife and another woman, who are believed to be the mother of some of the children, were critically wounded and critically wounded. The shooter, who died after a police pursuit that ended with officers firing on him, was reportedly in the process of separating from his wife, who also was shot and wounded. Police are hopeful that both women will recover. The children, aged 3 to 11 years old, were among the victims. The shooting was the deadliest in the U.S. since January 2024.
