Anthropic is set to enter the private equity market with a $1.5bn joint venture with Blackstone, Hellman & Friedman, Goldman Sachs, and General Atlantic, aiming to sell Claude into the buyout firms' portfolio companies. The investors will create a vehicle that operates as something between a consulting arm and a deployment factory to help these companies integrate Claude across their day-to-day operations. Unlike OpenAI's DeployCo, Anthropic's structure is more concentrated but more concentrated, with Anthropic contributing roughly the same amount as its biggest financial partner. Goldman Sachs joins as a founding investor at about $150m, with General Atlantic and other firms making up the rest. The joint venture is expected to be valued at $10bn in a round closing in early May, with OpenAI promising an annualised return of 17.5% over five years.
