The rise in GLP-1 drug use has led to a surge in American consumers' desire for more flavor in their food, leading to increased interest in condiments and spices. The 12% of Americans who have used the drugs are now using them, causing consumers to crave more flavor. While fast-food and snack companies are expected to lose billions in revenue due to this shift, companies like Japanese barbecue sauce Bachan’s and hot sauce brand Tapatio are attracting interest in M&A deals. The Marzetti Company paid approximately $400 million for Bachan's, which generated net sales of $87 million in 2025. Dallas-based private equity firm Highlander Partners bought California-based Tapatio for an undisclosed sum, touting it as the No. 5 hot sauce brands in the U.S. The move towards protein, particularly meats and eggs, as well as vegetables and other healthier parts of the food pyramid is seen as an opportunity for these sauces and spices as consumers shift away from processed foods to more wholesome areas.
