A cold front is expected to bring cooler temperatures, gusty winds, and light rain into Sunday, but there will be little drought relief. This will be followed by hot and dry conditions by midweek, which will continue to raise fire weather concerns. The cold front will also bring much-needed rainfall, wind gusts, and cooler air, but little relief from ongoing drought conditions. Higher elevations in the North Carolina mountains could see 0.1″ to 0.25″ of rain, while lower elevations may see trace amounts of 0.2″. Despite this, fire weather conditions will remain elevated throughout the forecast period. The ongoing drought and dry air mass will keep fire danger elevated into early next week.
