Mexico's 'hot' cop is the latest merch sensation

Mexico's Security Minister, Omar García Harfuch, has become a hit with merchandise, including miniature dolls, plush toys, party decorations, and flannel blankets bearing his image. The popularity of these items has surged after the Feb. 22 raid that killed the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG). The 44-year-old official, who is seen briefing the nation in a dark suit, now appears on cushions, towels, and cardboard cutouts in markets across Mexico. His image has also been featured on platforms like TikTok and other platforms promoting products such as hair oil. However, this trend reportedly has a darker edge in the textile hubs of Moroleón and Uriangato, two municipalities in southern Guanajuato where some vendors have reportedly received warnings from organized crime for selling items with this image.
