San Diego Padres beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 9-4 in the second game of a four-game series in Phoenix. Manny Machado scored three hits and drove in four runs, while Randy Vasquez pitched six scoreless innings. Jackson Merrill had three hits, two RBIs and two runs for the Padres, who took a 6-0 lead after two innings off Eduardo Rodriguez. Arizona's Nolan Arenado and James McCann hit two-run homers in the seventh to close the deficit to 8-4. The Padres have won nine of 11 games and have removed Xander Bogaerts and Freddy Fermin from the team.
