CCSD’s path to football independence more complex than just Gorman

Clark County School District (CCSD) football programs have opted to play as independents for the next two seasons, following more than just Bishop Gorman's dominance in the sport. Issues such as Gorman’s return to national prominence, the rise of charter schools and changes at CCSD have led to this change. The issue arose when the district's football programs were pulled out of the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association (NIA), leading 30 programs in Southern Nevada to be played as independents over two seasons. This change leaves Bishop Gannon and Faith Lutheran, the only Southern private schools that can compete for state titles. The move to independent football is seen as a significant step forward but no solution has been found.
