A number of journalism advocacy organizations and former journalists have urged the White House Correspondents Association (WHCA) to "demonstrate opposition" to President Donald Trump's appearance at their annual dinner. The letter criticizes the president's repeated attacks on the free press, which have been cited as a contradiction to the dinner's purpose. The signatories include the Society of Professional Journalists, the National Association of Black Journalists, National Press Photographers Association, Freedom of the Press Association, the Coalition for Women in Journalism, and the Radio Television Digital News Association. The WHCA has faced difficulties in responding to criticism from Trump, who only likes one type of criticism: none.
