'We are out of tears.' Americans share hope, concern after strikes

As news of the Iran strikes broke that killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei led to protests across the country, with some expressing hope and concern. Demonstrators gathered in U.S. cities, big and small, from New York City, Washington, DC, and Los Angeles to Waynesboro, Virginia, and Worcester, Massachusetts. Students from various universities added a protest to their plans after learning of the strikes. The Iranian Red Crescent reported that at least 200 people had been killed and over 700 wounded, including Khamenei, Iran's longtime leader known for repressive rule and anti-Western foreign policy. However, some Iranian students welcomed the news of strikes with hope and hopeful for brighter days ahead. A Reuters/Ipsos poll showed that only one in four Americans approved of the Israel strikes, and others were skeptical about the financial and moral cost of more warfare in the Middle East.
