Once close enough for an acquisition, Stripe and Airwallex are now going after each other

Jack Zhang, a 34-year-old entrepreneur from China, started Airwallex three and a half years ago with a $2 million annualized revenue and three months into running the business. Despite being offered a $1.2 billion deal by Stripe, Zhang decided to build a global financial infrastructure that allows any business to operate anywhere in the world as if it were a local company. His vision was still there, with the vision still strong. AirwalLex now holds over 90 financial licenses across 50 markets and processes approaching $300 billion in annualized transaction volume annually. Despite setbacks, Zhang remains committed to building a global money movement network.
