The Department of Justice (DOJ) is proposing a new rule to prevent the "weaponization" of bar complaints against its attorneys. The rule would allow the DOJ to review ethics allegations against its own attorneys first and suspend any parallel investigations until the completion of the Department's review. Bar complaints have been filed against career DOJ attorneys and senior officials, including Deputy United States Attorney General Todd Blanche, Pardon Attorney Ed Martin, and former New Jersey U.S. Attorney Alina Habba. Left-wing organizations, including some that targeted President Donald Trump's attorneys after the 2020 election, have been behind most complaints against DOJ attorneys in the past year. The proposal does not require state bars to suspend pending the Department’s review.
