37% of cannabis poisonings in Wisconsin involved children under 5

Most calls to the Wisconsin Poison Center about edible cannabis poisonings in 2025, including 37% of the 309 calls received last year, according to a spokesperson for the center. The center also revealed that about 8% of these calls resulted in patients being admitted to critical care. Most of the calls were made to children under 5 who mistakenly believe THC-infused edibles as candy. Street drugs and stimulants such as THC and nicotine were the most common substances involved in poisonings last year. The best way to avoid these exposures is to store these substances safely and discuss the risks of using them.
