The Photography Show presented by AIPAD, held at the Park Avenue Armory from April 22-26, 2026, has revealed that photography has arrived as one of the most intellectually potent, historically loaded, and emotionally demanding forms in the contemporary market. The show included international exhibitors, historically significant work, contemporary experimentation, and the newly introduced Focal Point sector. Despite this, photography has not been widely paid for and has often been accused of being too immediate, mechanical, too close to reality to be granted the full intoxication of art. The issue is that too few collectors have been trained to recognize its value. A great photograph is not just an image but an object with lineage.
