Nevada Senator Jacky Rosen is leading efforts to bring federal funds to southern Nevada during heat emergencies, where temperatures reach 100 degrees or hotter. The president can declare a natural disaster area, meaning federal dollars are available for immediate assistance during these crises. Federal funding could include temporary cooling centers, polar pods to cool down people experiencing heat-related illness, portable air conditioning units or fans for vulnerable Nevadans. Rosen has introduced legislation in Congress to declare extreme heat as a federal disaster and is working to pass it to help Nevadas when they need it most. The government is providing relief to those affected by extreme drought, with the USDA having declared drought emergencies in several Nevada counties.
