New research from the Wharton Neuroscience Initiative (WiN), Korn Ferry, and Lazul.ai suggests that there are brain-based signals that indicate someone will be a good leader that can occur long before a performance review captures them. The study found that undergraduates who could quickly shift strategies under pressure, a trait called cognitive flexibility, showed the highest propensity for leadership. These individuals were more likely to take on leadership roles. The research suggests that organizations can identify leadership potential in people who haven't yet demonstrated it professionally.
